Since its establishment in 1976, the Department of Architectural Engineering at Korea National University of Transportation has endeavored to cultivate highly specialized professionals who can adapt to the rapidly changing domestic and global construction market.
To this end, the Department operates a rigorous and well-structured curriculum covering both theory and practice, supported by the stable financial and administrative foundation unique to a national university. The program is delivered by eight outstanding full-time faculty members specializing in architectural structures, construction and materials, building services, and environmental engineering, together with adjunct professors and external lecturers.
As a result, the Department has maintained an accredited educational system recognized by ABEEK (Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea) from 2009 to the present. Through one-to-one training between faculty and students, our graduates have gone on to successful careers in a wide range of fields, including general construction companies, architectural design firms, the national civil service, and specialized engineering firms.
Furthermore, in line with current academic trends, we are working to broaden and advance the Department’s vision through interdisciplinary convergence, BIM, ICT-based architecture, and transportation-specialized education initiatives.
All members of the Department of Architectural Engineering pledge to do our utmost to realize our vision: advancing the nation’s construction industry, contributing to the development of our national university, and helping our students achieve the ideals they aspire to.
Chair, Department of Architectural Engineering
Architectural Engineering at Korea National University of Transportation is an academic discipline dedicated to creating spaces that sustain and enrich human life. Through our major courses, students systematically study architectural planning and design, CAD/BIM, architectural history and theory, architectural environment and building services, urban planning, structural engineering, building materials, construction, and cost estimating, so that they can comprehensively address the creation of the built environment and the complex, diverse practices involved in architecture.
We pursue continuous improvement in teaching by complementing traditional instructional methods with approaches that enable students to solve problems creatively through discussions between faculty and students, as well as among students. In addition, we provide a foundation for students to organize and present their ideas, fostering an environment where open and free exchange of thinking can take place.
With the skills and expertise cultivated through this process, undergraduate students in the Department of Architectural Engineering at Korea National University of Transportation develop strong creative problem-solving abilities and grow into “glocal” professionals—capable of bridging and integrating emerging technologies to create new value in innovative ways.
